MSGM: Engine management strategies for large engines
Against the backdrop of increasingly stringent emission guidelines, including in the field of large diesel engines used in maritime and stationary applications, optimum control of the combustion process is becoming increasingly important.
As part of the Motor Management Strategies for Large Engines (MSGM) project, fundamental investigations are being carried out with the aim of developing a suitable engine management system to enable optimum engine adaptation in terms of efficiency and emissions. The test vehicle is a heavy-fuel-compatible single-cylinder test engine with a common rail injection system and optical access points. The work includes investigations to verify the potential of pre- and post-injection, injection pressure and injection timing variations for marine fuels.
