CNG Cold start

Investigation of the cold start behaviour of exhaust aftertreatment systems for methane-powered gas engines

Project objective

The objective is to improve basic knowledge of catalytic CH4 and CH2O conversion in three-way and oxidation catalysts during cold starts.

The findings will be transferred to kinetic catalyst models. The focus will be on the effects of water deactivation through surface reactions and evaporation of condensate, and the regeneration of the catalysts investigated using NO, H2 and NH3. A representative passenger car and heavy-duty engine including exhaust aftertreatment will serve as test vehicles. The measurement data and findings from the experimental part of the project will be used to develop and validate the kinetic catalyst models.
