Project objective

The objective is to improve basic knowledge of catalytic CH₄ and CH₂O conversion in three-way and oxidation catalysts during cold starts.

The findings will be transferred to kinetic catalyst models. The focus will be on the effects of water deactivation through surface reactions and evaporation of condensate, and the regeneration of the catalysts investigated using NO, H₂ and NH₃. A representative passenger car and heavy-duty engine including exhaust aftertreatment will serve as test vehicles. The measurement data and findings from the experimental part of the project will be used to develop and validate the kinetic catalyst models.
